Shirley Strong, M.Ed., M.A. is a former chief diversity officer and dean of students retired after several decades in higher education and nonprofit work. Building Beloved Community has been a touchstone for her life and work. In 2021 she completed a seminary education, a lifelong goal, after which she completed a spiritual memoir and a manual for first-generation BIPOC college students. She gives talks and workshops on building Beloved Community and increasing belonging. She works as a consultant for California Institute of Integral Studies’ Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, with the Provost’s office, and with their Center for Psychedelic Therapies and Research.
Beloved Community is an inclusive, interrelated consciousness based on love, justice, responsibility, compassion, shared power, and a deep respect for all people, places and things that radically transforms individuals and restructures institutions.
